Here are some of my favorites from the Jenny Rees and James Sulak wedding that took place at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta on April 18th.

Here’s a photo of me taken at my recent graduation by my friend Myron McGhee.

The tassle behind the camera
I graduated from Emory’s Candler School of Theology, along with about 135 other graduates. I now have a Master’s of Divinity (as well as several other degrees)
Here’s a link to a slideshow of photos I took at my own graduation. I just can’t put the camera down.

I’m happy to report a first place finish in the Getting Ready category in the Wedding Photojournalist Association’s 4th quarter contest.
On March 2nd a photograph I took of Laurie and Jay Smith dancing their first dance together was the featured photo on wedplan.net.

Laurie and Jay got married on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The reception was a blast!
And best of all, my associate and I had a reserved room in the lovely beach home where the reception took place.
I figured since I went to the trouble of writing these for my facebook friends, I would share them here.
1. Sometimes when I close my eyes I notice how the negative image of what I was just looking at appears on the back of my eyelids.
2. I named my cat Candler after the seminary I attend.
3. My grandmothers’ names were Jewel and Ruby.
4. I think I should have been named Sapphire or Diamond.
5. I love the thesaurus feature on Word.
6. My favorite food is okra.
7. I haven’t played “Count the Cows” in years.
8. I have two NRSV study Bibles.
9. I once sailed across Tampa Bay … unintentionally.
10. I purposely created a “kinder, gentler” dissertation committee.
11. I have a pie safe, but never put pies in it.
12. I have made tortilla pie about 5 times in the last month.
13. My favorite vegetarian cookbook is the Moosewood Cookbook with the broccoli forest on the cover.
14. I lost my copy of it behind a refrigerator.
15. My best friend from 6th grade and I still exchange birthday cards.
16. I once was assigned to photograph the dedication of a screened in porch.
17. I loved to pick blackberries when I was a little girl.
18. I’ve been told that when I was three I rode on my Dad’s shoulders when he was water skiing.
19. I wish I had pictures of that.
20. I own four pair of blue jeans.
21. Two pair are a tad too tight.
22. My car was clean when I met my spouse.
23. It is hardly ever clean.
24. My oldest grandson is a Lego genius.
25. I once taught English composition at a women’s college.

Laurie and Jay’s wedding on the Outer Banks of NC at Corolla Beach set the standard for beach weddings. The wedding took place on the beach behind a beautiful rental home that could only be reached by 4-wheel-drive vehicle. So those without their own 4-wheel-drives were transported by large 4-wheel-drive buses.

Laurie’s Mom, Patty, decorated the 18-bedroom rental home with handmade table clothes, flowers and balloons.
And then the real fun began with the ceremony on the beach and a reception on the deck behind the lovelly beach home.

Look at the lovely chopping block my 84 year old Dad made me for Christmas. The top is made of maple. The drawer is cherry. And the legs are walnut.

Here are comments about the chopping block from my facebook friends.
It’s been quite a while since I posted. The fall semester kept me quite busy. As did work on wedding photos and albums. Now that I’ve had a few days to catch my breath, I’m posting a few photos from a couple of recent weddings. I’ll start with these photos from Josey and John’s wedding in North Carolina.

Here’s a rather strange photo I took at wedding in Roswell, Georgia in April. It took a 12th place award in the Kids category of the summer 2008 Wedding Photojournalist Association contest.
One of the judges who chose to give the photo an award wrote: “This photo is really bizarre and I like that. I also like the lack of reaction from those around him. Good find.”
I took the photo at a wedding I shot for my friend Manuel. When Manuel called to congratulate me, he told me he liked the photo, but it certainly wasn’t my very best.
Isn’t it interesting how judges choose award winners?

Weddings are a blast!
It’s sad when a bride seems too stressed to enjoy the big day. Thankfully most brides I have had the privilege to work with have been relaxed enough to have some fun.
Jean, the bride in the photos below, had no problem enjoying her wedding day. Below are just a few photos of her getting dressed.
To see more photos from Jean and Kyle’s excellent wedding, check out the slideshow.

Jean’s bridesmaids had fun, too.
